After a long hiatus, I've decided to update the Rubicon site, fix everything that was broken, and continue work on a few long deserted Rubicon-related projects. Chief among them is updating Rubicon with bug fixes, some new artwork, OS X as well as Windows compatability, and all the fanfair contained therein. If you're a windows user or OS X / windows programmer, and wish to help out, email me.

We've uploaded the first batch of network films. You'll find them on the downloads page. For now, it's just s simple index of films. If the number of films pass beyond a certain point, we'll try to make something more out of it.
Speaking of indexes, we've removed the 3rd party map index. Instead of dumping them in an index, send your maps to the Bungie.org archives. They're much better at handling map libraries than we are. But send us a copy of your maps anyway. We still want to see them.

Available starting today is the complete Rubicon Spoiler Guide, viewable by clicking that merry little button in the upper righthand corner of the navigation graphic. Unlike the version included with the game's installer, this guide offers a complete breakdown of all of the monsters, detailed maps and walkthroughs of every level, with all (well, alright, most) secrets revealed. If you're a dirty dirty cheater, life doesn't get much better than this.

Now you can make maps of your own. Go to the downloads page and grab the editors. The package contains a patcher for Anvil and Forge, and a bundle of physics files to make sure things behave the way they were intended.
And we want your maps! Send them to us.

The two themes Elohymn Velhaven wrote for Rubicon are now available for download. These are a 16-bit version of the main Rubicon theme and an unfragmented version of the Ascension theme.

Apple.com Mirror, MacAddict, and Films

A new mirror has been added to the download page; this time, Apple has stepped in and provided bandwidth. We applaud Apple for recognising the efforts of the Rubicon team, and for offering to help defer some of the download stresses.
If the download burden is still too for many of you modem players out there, you can look for Rubicon in a future issue in MacAddict. The time between the creation of a new issue and that issue hitting the stands is two months, I'm told, so I would guess that you can pick up your copy in early June.
The Rubicon Network Pack is nearing completion, and beta testers are needed. If you are able to regularly play network games of Rubicon, please email testers@marathonrubicon.com with the following:
- Your name
- Your email address
- The number of people who you regularly play with
- How often you will be able to test maps
- A film of a past Rubicon network game you've played
The selected group or groups will be informed via email.

Download / Mirror problems being fixed / AO Bugs

Many of you have written in with complaints about the difficulty of finding an open download slot for Rubicon. We're working on that problem as I write this, and we should have more download options available before the night is out. Our sincere thanks goes out to everyone who has written in with praise about the game, and we hope that all of you get the opportunity to play it as soon as possible.
On another topic entirely, some of you have been having difficulty getting OpenGL support to function properly in Rubicon AO. The only suggestion we can offer to those of you who are experiencing difficulties is to substantially increase the memory partition allocated to Rubicon AO Light and to install the newest OpenGL drivers. If nothing seems to work, we suggest playing without OpenGL turned on.

Rubicon's Prologue Posted

RUBICON RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED!

At long last, it's finally time to put Rubicon into the hands of the public. This Friday night (or more accurately, early Saturday morning), Rubicon will be made available for free public download. Set your alarm clocks for 12:01 AM EST on St. Patrick's Day, because that's when the floodgates will be opened.
Three install options will be available:
- Rubicon Standard: This version of Rubicon requires that you have a copy of Marathon Infinity handy for it to install. Rubicon Standard uses the tried and true Infinity engine, and requires you to be a valid owner of Marathon Infinity to play.
- Rubicon AO: Don't own Marathon? No problem! Want to be able to run Rubicon at high resolutions or on a 3d accelerator card? You've come to the right place! Rubicon AO is the stand alone version of Rubicon; it utilizes the Aleph One engine to bring you the Marathon you know and love with oodles of new features.
- Mix 'n Match: For the slow modem users who can't handle big downloads. Download each file individually, and create your own installation. We really, really, really recommend that you stick with #1 or #2, but this option is offered because we're such nice people.
