Well, I am going to be a little more specific on the matter that everyone is bringing up with A0 and say that there is a bit of a problem with the OpenGL support. As soon as I turn it on in basic mode the characters go white when they do stuff and then I freeze. Runs fine without OpenGL and under Marathon Infinity. I can not wait until this is fixed; for those few seconds with OpenGL on it looked UNBELIEVABLE. I am completely hooked to this atm and if some of the things like the swampy water kept their Marathon look but were made more graphical on a modern standard and internet gaming was added you NEVER get me away from my computer. I don't buy games 'cause I rarely play 'em but I would go miles out of my way to buy this.

RUBICON RULES!!! I love this game, all of the lovely new graphics and levels. It took HOURS to download (about six hours in all, including numerous crashes and laggy bits), but IT WAS WORTH EVERY SECOND!!! You guys have not wasted the last four years of your spare time. Rubicon is a great achievement. By the way, is there any chance of an updater to update the standard version to the A1 version? I don't want to spend another evening downloading, and I want the A1 version!!! How incredibly greedy of me.

Yours addictively, Mr Bongowongo

I love this game, my thanks to the Rubicon team. The levels are as complex, if not more than those of infinity. A lot more fun to play than, the turn left, turn right finish level ones of um.. my own construction. The mod is a work of briliance in every aspect and just shows what the public is capable of when commited. I'll be glued to it untill I have tried all paths.

This is great! The Infinity version runs @ 30 fps easy on low-res full screen on my 6100. This isn't bungie quality, it's better! Most Marathon scenarios concentrate on maximizing the carnage, but this one brings back the problem-solving feel of the original series. So far I've only beaten the first level, and if they're all so big, the game will take months or years to beat! I can't wait until I get a G3 upgrade and I can run this in hi-res. One thing though, in the underwater part of the first level, the ambient sound makes a funny "click" when it repeats itself. I'll be sure to give this a great review on MacInstruct.

All the servers with the game bugged.
There is too much people who want the game.

Can you please make an upgrade with the marathon demo, I have it, the buttons are not at the right place....
The complete game does not work with my mac(68K 33MHz) but everything is working well with the demo of marathon*.

Came too late to the mac party to get into the Marathon games. I can however say this is pretty good despite the age of the engine. It being freeware it's just plain awesome. Running the AO version on a B&WG3 with no problems. Call me spoiled but when can we expect the editing tools?

I love playing this, but in parts where there is a lot of action, all the shapes turn into white rectangles and then i freeze up, and this is only 2 minutes into the game! I'm trying to run at 1024 with the hud in the stand alone version on a Sawtooth G4/400 with 192 MB RAM.

WHOA!! This isn't an addon or a modification, it's a whole new damn game!! This REALLY is Marathon 4! Some fo the levels are nuts! I've been making liberal use of the spoiler because I'm not the brightest bulb in the hall when it comes to noticing small switche s& doubling back, etc. Thanks for that thing, or I would have deleted it out of frustration. Other than that (and I'm a big wuss even though I love all 3 marathon games) it's incredibly immersive. I still cannot figure out how to change the outcome of the first chapter to get to the non-Pfhor Homeworld chapter. But I'll figure it out soon enough. Great game, can't wait for the AO enchanced version. BTW, been running it on AO Light & it works great. The funny resolutions thing is AO's problem, not yours.

Help, I really want to play this but when I start a new game it puts my main monitor to sleep (Sony HMD-200A) I am using it with PowerMac 7500 upgraded to a 233/G3

From what I've had a chance to play, this scenario is absolutely amazing. I actually can't really give it justice with words, you'll just have to play it.

I also found that secret level, although I'm having a hard time just trying to figure out how to get out of that first room :).

Paulc, thats not a problem with Rubicon, but a problem with the Aleph One engine--first off, turning on that 2D Graphics option crashes EVERYONE. Second, yeah, the no HUD thing is a problem, but a problem that is apparently only Voodoo card specific. Not that it will help or anything, just letting everyone know, the Rubicon team is not at fault. In fact, they've done everything right. :)

I've been playing Marathon for as long as I remember, playing through the trilogy, getting to know Durandal and his motives, and the twisted mess of an AI called Tycho. I've played countless other third-party scenario's and this one beats 'em all, hands down, both in terms of length and complexity. The game is balanced very well, with the upgrades made to the various weapons matching the strength of the Pfhor opponents. Hulks with grenades! Was I ever not expecting that! An excellent game, and worthy of being dubbed the fourth chapter in the Marathon saga. Great work, guys.

I've been playing almost nonstop since eight AM yesterday morning, and still I've only seen one of the reported four possible endings. It wasn't a let down- indeed, I promptly trashed my saved games and went back to find the alternate paths. This thing is incredible. I didn't know the Marathon engine could produce work this beautiful. The Giger-esque ship interiors and frighteningly organic Pfhor structures were particularly stunning. The new weapons kick ass- the maser cannon and mercury fusion rifles especially- although personally I don't much care for the new SPNKR. Still haven't found the mortar, although I have found one secret level (which I cannot beat for the life of me- those mine drones pack a wallop).
To the team that made this- you guys rock. Ludefisk forever.

Seem to have some problems.. have Voodoo 5500, latest drivers/OGL, OS 8.6, 500MHz G3 accelerator. No hud shows up. Someone suggested turning "on" the "play 2D through OGL" sub setting.. all that did was cause the game to completely freeze.. multiple times. Also, setting resolution to 1024 produces an image that does NOT fill the screen.. there are irregular black borders around all 4 sides.. makes no difference if I use the full screen setting or not, both on and off produce the same thing. Bummer.. without the HUD (and the radar) this deiosn't quite have the Marathon feel!

I set the browser to download before going to bed last night and was SO jazzed to see the download completed when I woke up. Even MORE jazzed when I installed it and fired it up! New music! New sounds! New textures! This is incredible! And I'm only on the second level so far! It's nice to be back in the saddle after so long. You folks even nailed Durandal's "tone". The com screens definitely have the same feel as the original. It'd be easy to believe that this came straight from Bungie! The amount of hard work that went into this vast scenario is evident. My cyber-helmet is off to the entire team!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Very cool! Movement very smooth with AO version millions colors on G4 w/ 100MB RAM allocation. Sounds outstanding--pervasive without being harsh. Love the pistols, except you seem to have to hold them slightly high. Machine gun fire much improved. Not sure about the grenades yet . . . it's 5 a.m. and should get some sleep.

Wow, this scenario rocks! Much better than any other non-Bungie material I've played. I'm forcing myself not to cheat, so I can only comment on the first three levels. I've been averaging about an hour per level. Some parts are frustrating, but I really like the rapid-fire fists and the as-smooth-as-can-be-expected integration of dirt, rock, and ship hull. Beautiful work. I've been playing the Aleph One version, and haven't experienced any problems. My only concern is whether there will ever be a better Marathon scenario, or if this is the end...

Funny, I was just reading a book called The Trigger, by Arthur C. Clarke and Michael P. Kube-McDowell. Page 144 says: "Barbara Thayer-Cummins, please," she said, glancing sideways at Gordon with a look that said, Here we go, across the Rubicon.

Hmm, I think I'll try looking it up on MacDICT·
Rubicon n 1: the boundary in ancient times between Italy and Gaul; Caesar's crossing it with his army in 49 BC was an act of war [syn: {Rubicon}] 2: a line that when crossed permits of no return and typically results in irrevocable commitment [syn: {Rubicon}, {point of no return}] Rubicon, WI Zip code(s): 53078
